.nz WHOIS Review

I expect this will interest some folks here. The Domain Name Commission is currently undertaking a review of their current WHOIS policy. Stage 1 they are interested in views as to why there should be a .nz WHOIS service. Stage 2 is what information is displayed and how. https://dnc.org.nz/whois-revi...

Finally!

I'd be quietly staggered if she got home detention, given the benefit fraud charges, which I assume still have to go trial as well.

Re: All rules forgotten or still some left?

For Buy Now, they're Address Verified, so that's all they need. For Pay Now, they look awfully similar to pipsqueaksnz http://www.trademe.co.nz/stores/pipsqueaks/contact" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ..at least google says so when searching for some of the phrasing....ah...and that'...

Re: Elmira Rafie - iPhone scammer

Marilyn had class though, so she was aiming a bit high. Probably should have styled herself more on the Lindsay Lohan type... In court today, 53 charges. The woman accused of scamming people in online auctions now faces 53 charges. Elmira Rafiee is alleged to have contacted 45 Trade Me and Sella cus...

Re: Xtreme Fuel Treatment.

The article says 2.5 not 1.2 million that she's thought to owe ? In either case it's more than $50, which is all she could hope to get from these additive scams. I really hope that the victims continue with their lawyers at full force and not give this waddling dribbler any more leeway. I can't tell...

Re: How to spot a fake GHD straightener

Here's a list of all websites hosting on the same server. They'll all be selling fake GHDs I assume. If you paid by Credit Card Alesha, see about having reversing the charges, though I don't know if that's possible if counterfeit goods are received. Your Credit Card provider would be able to tell yo...

Re: Adaptation of ScamChecker

Partner just got another small web contract, so I'll have to wait until she's got time. I'm currently using the Etomite CMS which isn't ideal for the likes of me, and want to migrate the code to WordPress given how well that's supported by web hosts.

Re: Adaptation of ScamChecker

All I think you can really do is present the site in the manner you think it needs to be, if it's good enough and stands up to criticism given it's novelty factor, then opportunities would present themselves. I need to add more criteria for job scams as well, such as http://www.votemenot.co.nz/threa...

Re: Adaptation of ScamChecker

You might want to update some of the PayPal references - given the number of PayPal based car/boat type scams circulating at the moment. Based on the info on your site, a buyer's willingness to pay by PayPal might suggest that they're legit. I agree though - nothing will save the terminally stupid ...

Re: Adaptation of ScamChecker

Quite right, I suppose having more information out there couldn't hurt. But there's a stack of information out there to indicate common scams, yet people still fail to see. In the example of the $32k http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/4598884/Woman-loses-32-000-in-tax-refund-scam" onclick="window...

Adaptation of ScamChecker

So I've had http://www.scamchecker.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; running for a while, it consistently hits 20-40 uniques a day, 35,000 in total since I started it, and I think it's served the purpose of educating people on warning signs. However, it was only aimed at Chinese bas...
