Finding this website - need some backlinks buddy?

Post by 00timebandit00 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:40 am

Hiya,

Have been a member for awhile but typed in scam busters into google and notice your site is down around number 7 (searched in NZ sites).

Freaky cause for a moment I thought your site was toast especially since one of the earlier google listings had the text "scambusters no more" - turned out they were talking about the SFO - phew!

! Thought I'd let you know in case you didn't realise it.....if I were a conspiracy theorist I might think TM aka Fairfax used its influence to bump you down the list.....nah!

TM have used dirty tactics over the years to reduce our influence. The
worst case involved continual editing of our Wikipedia page to say that
we worked on incomplete information and often got it wrong. The IP
address used to edit that page matched one of our members, a person
who had also logged on to this site from a TradeMe IP. Gotcha! They
have since succeeded in having any reference to SBs removed from
Wikipedia.

We're a group of volunteers who don't have either the time or resources
to fight this sort of bully boy behaviour.

PS: Search Google for "scambusters trademe" or "trademe scams" brings
up references to our site. However I agree that we could rank better.

your site comes up #1 for "scambusters trademe"...this term is not searched for very often, so being number one for it does you no good unless people are deliberately trying to find you.

For "trademe scam" your site is on page two of Google. I guess it doesn't matter much since the global search volume is really low = 73 - 76 (ref. google keyword tool external)

Will do some backlinks 4 you and try and boost your rank in Alexa/Google/Yahoo starting from tonight (checked your Alexa rank just now, for reference later rank in NZ 22,628 and 1,125,235 Globally). Check Alexa in a week or two should notice improvement.

Let me know if I can help in another way.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TradeMe#Fr ... ontroversy

A website www.scambusters.co.nz functioned as an independent site of watchers of fraud on TradeMe. The group comprises amateur online members, and while they presented themselves as a site for reporting fraud on TradeMe, they had no affiliation to TradeMe, and therefore no access to some of the information or help that potential victims might need.

Wikipedia used to have considerably more info including some of the
bigger scams we uncovered over the years, TradeMe's attacks upon
us and so forth.

It's hard not to sense the evil corporate hand of Fairfax behind the
changes.

And thanks bandit... any help appreciated.

Fairfax aperar to be quietly removing references to the site.

To counter Fairfax,

wikipedia says,

"You may create the page "Scambusters", but consider checking the search results below to see whether it is already covered.
For some searches only the first 51 results are listed below. This is temporary and due to a lack of server resources."

This may be one of the first, free, large exposure options, you have all the history???????????
