24/7 Hosting in Christchurch

Post by sheeepguy » Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:06 am

I am having very serious issues with 24/7 Hosting in Christchurch.

I purchased a domain name on behalf of a client and another client also bought a .co.nz domain shortly afterwards along with a hosting plan from 24/7.

My specific problem is that for around 6 weeks I have been trying to change the nameservers for the two domains but was unable to as I got an error on both domains.

I am also not able to access the registrar of the domains to change the registrar.

Of course I am talking with the NZ Domain Name Commission http://dnc.org.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who are also doing their best to get the domain names back.

In short this has severly affected my clients and myself and I need to resolve the situation.

24/7 have now involved their solicitor, for reasons that are completely beyond me as there is no dispute about the domains ownership and I have never owed them any money, which makes communication even worse. Of course this means my clients, through no fault of their own, are without their websites or any control of their domain names.

I am wondering if you've had similar experiences and if you found a way round them. Obviously I have found a new host and I guess I will have to simply walk away from 24/7 and my clients will have to go through the whole process of finding new domain names, so this is my last desperate attempt to see if I can 'rescue' my clients domain names.

I do not propose telling you how badly I have been treated by 24/7 but I wish I'd read some of the articles I have since found on the internet concerning their business practices.

Hi Stan and welcome to ScamBusters. We had previous complaints about 24/7 Hosting when it was owned by a slightly dodgy character called Steve Amstad. Have a read through this thread to see
what I mean. (Note that in a touch of irony, the thread was actually started by Amstad himself)

http://scambusters.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4654" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We've been told that the company changed hands in 2008 but according to the Companies Office it was struck off that year and still appears to be dead.

Six weeks to change nameservers is ridiculous. You should be able to do that in a couple of minutes and it would normally be live within 24 hours. It would seem that 24/7 is pretty much a semi-
automated site that takes your money but that their service hasn't improved since the Amstad days. Please keep us informed with your progress on this one Stan.

hi Alfie

Thanks for the kind welcome.
Things are moving fast on this front; I've just had Gordon Harcourt from Fair Go call me regarding 24/7 Hosting and their myriad of associated companies.
Gordon tells me that the full story (whatever that is) regarding the MD of Klib Technologies will be aired either next week or the week after, so I'm obviously not alone in having problems.
Whilst my problems have been with 24/7 Hosting, there are associated companies under the Klib operation all offering the same type of deal;
Searching for 'Klib technologies' (the parent company of 24/7 Hosting) produces a number of results;

http://klibtech.co.nz/about-us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (note that klib states on the front page of that site; ' Having more that 15 years of Internet experience'. - I understand Caleb is only 24years old, he would have had to start his business when he was 9 years old). There is a link on that same web site for hosting; http://klibtech.co.nz/nz-web-hosting/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; note that 24/7 Hosting is not mentioned.

http://nzgreenhost.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is another web site owned and operated by Klib Technologies.

http://cheapnzdomains.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; another Klib site

https://christchurchwebhosting.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; yet another

phew and another;

http://christchurchwebhosting.co.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

whilst there is nothing illegal about selling the same product/service under a number of different web sites, I have to ask, why?

btw, this is a great site, thanks for all your effort!

I'm glad to hear that Fair Go is on the case and look forward to seeing that programme.

If there's one thing that distinguishes Klib's site from other web designers it's their failure to grasp the basics of the English language. Some examples...
Flick us an message!
Over the past 15 Years we've learn't something very important...
The impressive sounding "Klib Technologies" was first registered as a company in March of this year. Caleb Finlay's Google profile shows a photo of him when he was about 12 years old.

https://profiles.google.com/klib.2010/posts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The lad apparently is "Managing Director" of his own company, CF Solutions. He even has a link to that entity's website, but that's either broken or has never existed. For a person who apparently owns a hosting company, the lad ain't so hot at building and maintaining websites.

His Old Friends' profile says he's 24 and was formerly known as Caleb Carrington. That's as unusual as him having "15 years internet experience" but I suppose his Mum might have let him use the net when he was nine. Apparently he's currently working at Iconic & Legends Bar in Christchurch.

Roll on Fair Go!

We've been informed that Amstad is still the owner of PhotoSales.

He is director, not owner:

You appear to be correct. However the majority shareholder is still Philip Hall - the guy that shill bid when PhotoSales was auctioned on TM, and the registered address is still the convicted fraudster
Steve Amstad's home. I wonder who is really running the company?

As an aside, I see that Photosales have a "Knockoff handbags" link on the front page of their site which links to a Chinese site selling fake bags.

Classy guys! Real classy!

Tonight's "Fair Go" takes up Stan's case and slams 24/7 Hosting and its Christchurch-based director, Caleb Finlay - or is it Caleb Carrington? This guy apparently goes by both names.

Someone else bought four iMacs from Caleb but surprise... they didn't get delivered. Fair Go also claims the 24/7 website design was stolen from a US company which is keen to speak with young Caleb.
On Monday there was good news - the missing computers finally arrived at Ken Curnow's place,
and he was sent an email trail which indicated the whole thing was CourierPost's fault.

We checked because that's what we do. Courier Post told us the emails were nonsense, from a non-existent staff member. We think the emails were fake.

In the 24 hours before broadcast I also discovered TradeMe investigated Caleb Finlay/Carrington and complained to Police, about trades were paid for but allegedly not delivered. Police confirmed
they are investigating.

Ohhh Caleb... your bad deeds are catching up on you.

Naturally, we don't recommend that anyone uses 24/7 for hosting or any other services.

They got that story out fast! Looking forward to the ongoing story. Alas, all is not as it seems.

Hey Stan,
I have also just had a dreadful experience with 24/7. The three weeks I was with them cost me at least 3 full days trying to sort out problems. Email is essential to our business. I finally got fed up last Friday. We had no email, no one at 24/7 answered their phones - I think they were disconnected. It took several on-line requests to get a response after I said I'd need to move my hosting unless they phoned me. Was told by Hayley at 24/7 that I'd have to move since they couldn't call as they had no power! Moving back to my previous host was a nightmare. I needed to cancel on-line (for security reasons) but I didn't have the login details for the area they told me I had to go to fill out a cancellation request (not my companies webmail account) and they wouldn't reply to requests to give me access. I had some emails going to them and some to the new host. I'm sorted now but would advise anyone out there to give 24/7 a wide swerve. If the price is too good to be true...it probably is

I've had an email from yet another person who is trying to contact 24/7 or the other company run by young Caleb - nzgreenhost. Apparently there are no replies to phone calls or emails.

In related news (as this thread discusses Amstad's other company) PhotoSales NZ Ltd was struck off at Companies House on 30 Sep 2011.

The website is still operating and the domain is now registered to someone from Onehunga. Any updates appreciated.

Hi All,

I'm yet another person who has fallen victim to 247hosting dodgy (cough crooked/scamming) business ethics.

On 02/05/2012, purchased Silver Business hosting @ $19.95 p/m and one (1) dedicated IP @ $10 p/m, total paid $29.95NZD. I also paid a one (1) time donation of $5 to the RSPCA who 247hosting.co.nz claim to support.

Long story short... From 02/05/2012 to Friday 04/05/2012 (inclusive), I'd tried every means on offer to contact 247hosting. Support tickets, email and phone support about when my hosting service would be operational. Unfortunately all forms of contact were met with silence.

02/05/2012 sent support ticket asking when hosting would be set-up, (they state on site less than 1 hour), closed with no response.
03/05/2012 submitted another ticket - same outcome.
04/05/2012 phoned Australian support number. Automated message, told to lodge support ticket but could hold for support. 5 min, system ended call. Did not speak with anyone.
04/05/2012 phoned their New Zealand support number - identical result.
04/05/2012 Tried to use Live chat but (surprise, surprise) that was off-line. Instead submitted email. No reply to that either.

At that point the word "scam" became obvious. I commenced searching for 247hosting scam.

I should have researched first, I usually do.
Was tired and needed NZ hosting with Cpanel in a hurry. 247Hosting looked like a good choice. Reading the RSPCA blurb, figured they must be OK.

NB - Screen Cap of 247hosting sign-up page of RSPCA claims and asking for donation. Is this a scam too???

Well...
Mr Caleb Robert Carrington (aka Caleb Gower, aka Caleb Finlay) , DOB 12 March 1987. Attended Hampstead Kindergarden in 1990. Known then as Caleb Gower.
http://www.oldfriends.co.nz/Institution ... x?id=53152" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (note who submitted this photo)

He went on to attend Addington School (Primary) pictured here in 1993 (3'rd row), known then as Caleb Carrington.

http://www.mychristchurchbusinessisopen ... CompID=569" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This url displays an address used by 247hosting, which, is located in the same postcode (8024) as the schools above.

The Surname Finlay is associated to his mother whos married name was Gower. Two other children are connected to her but by two different Surnames - Boyd and Carrington. Hence the many aka's Caleb uses. Mybe he also runs by the name Caleb Boyd?

I have other information about his mother et...al. However I will not post that information. Her association to Caleb is by proxy - she is an innocent party.

---------

Caleb if your monitoring this thread, you've tried to scam the wrong person this time.

Obtaining the above information and credentials on you, took only a few hours. Frankly pal, you really don't want me to get started on your #ss. I'm as tancious as a bulldog with a bone. I strongly advise you to not only return my money but others you have scammed too. And to clean up your act!!!

--------

NB - Screen caps have been taken of everything I have on Caleb, just in case he tries to delete anything ;-)
