Another new one tonight = Lorraine West <westainy@gmail.com> just a waste of time as usual - the TXT was from 353 which is the first sign of not being legit - the email was what I expected

'Thanks for the prompt reply. My name is lorraine west. I believe my son sent you a text message to email me for the sale. I would like to know the lowest price for it and i want you to get back to me with more pictures and its current condition because i can’t come over to inspect it. I am buying it for my son living and working in Dubai.
I am at sea at the moment,i am an Marine biologist ( i work on South Ocean in east of New Zealand ) and due to the nature of my work, phone calls is restricted. my son checked your advert and sent you a text to contact me (his mother ) on my email address .
I am really sure he will be more than happy if i am able to purchase it from you because this is what he wanted and chose from the Advert.
You need not worry yourself about how it will get to him there in Dubai as i have a contact of shipping company there that will be handling the pick up and all the paper work. '

I received one this morning, from tho.cook@outlook.com , txt came thru from +64223832202.

"Hi there,

Thanks for the reply, I am interested in buying it from you, I am offshore at the moment as I am in Tasman sea due to work. in this case I will be buying it in good faith without prior inspection, for this reason I would like you to give me more details about the condition, How long have you had it ? And are you driving it presently?

I will buy the item at your asking price and then it will be transported by a shipping company that I have used to ship my items in the past. I am proposing to pay you through my PayPal as I am able to send payment to your PayPal account directly right now amd also pay 2.4% paypal transfer fees.
If you have a paypal account I would like you to send the me details so that I can make the transfer, but if you don't have an account you can sign up at http://www.paypal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and get back to me with the email address you used to register.

Your PayPal EMail Address :
Full Name :
Trademe Listing Number :

I will be waiting for your email soonest.

I will also add a tip of $500 for you for helping me out with the shipping process.

Cheers"

Hi,

I have been sent a text just this weekend 3rd MAY 2014, from Tricha and Ray Ford, they like my car and would like to buy it but cant view it as they are on their 20th Anniversary in the Bay of Islands which is nice, its for their son who works overseas, they want to send him it as a gift (lucky him). They would like to see more pictures first. Then they will pay by PayPal and get the shipping company to pick it up.

At first I responded with some questions and asked them to purchase it through trademe instead of a direct sale, they wouldnt do this. They still insisted they'd really like to buy it, I insisted they buy it through trademe, but they still wouldnt, I got really suspicious. Overnight I 100% knew this was dodgey, so looked up some scams and came across this forum.

their email is getforded8@gmail.com, maybe send them a swarm of Happy Anniversary emails with attached picture of the middle finger salute! Ive allready sent mine.

Hope this helps.

I got one from the Getforded as listed in an above post too.....yesterday.....but by this morning I was a bit suspect and did some hunting around and found this site! Seemed legit at the start. Yes we are away on holiday to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary but would like to buy the car for their son....... when they said "shipping company" I was like.....?????? why buy here and ship somewhere else.... age old saying if it is too good to be true it probably is!!!!!

Just posted an Ad for a Classic car on autotrader and had much the same response as you when this car was listed with Trade Me - two different local cellphone numbers (clicking off when you ring with emails addresses to make contact with - the first time I emailed back thinking I had an interested buyer was the guy working off shore getting an assessor costing $4000 - thankfully had no further communication nor spam but just received another cellphone text+64279714892 - Diana -otagospain/2gmail.com

Yep - got the same thing yesterday as I am trying to sell my daughters car. If it was her details on the sale she probably would have lost a lot of her money. Beware.
This is from a LAURA BENSON. Ignore her emails.

Hi Tracey... can you imagine how profuse these scammers are? I'm guessing that only a small proportion of these car scams are reported here, so there must be hundreds of others active at any one time. We appreciate you taking the time to file a report as Google pays attention to these forums and hopefully the scammer's name (and email addresses?) will show up on a Google search in the future.

Use Google to check the prevelance.

Using this text (with quotes) "(i work on South Pacific Ocean in east of New Zealand)" lists a number that have used this exact phrase, and been reported to various websites around the world. Click the phrase (it's a live link) to see the google results.
Google, the answer to so many questions!

I am interested in buying it and i would pay you with PayPal as it is fast & easy for me to pay with right now, don't worry about paypal charges, i will take care of that and about the transportation, i shall arrange for a transport agent to come to your home for the pickup .

If we have a deal, you should send me your info requested below if you have an account already with paypal:-

or you should send me a PayPal money request, so that i can proceed with the transfer i will also add the 3.9% to the payment for the Paypal charges and then we can arrange for my transport agent to come for the pick up, after you receive your money. I will also need your home address too for the pick up to be arranged.

I received a text message from this number last night in relation to buying my car off Trademe:
+447400346314
I'm interested in your car listed on trademe, what is your bottom dollar? email me at abolas8@gmail.com

Replied to email with "bottom $" and received the following reply:

From: abolas8@gmail.com

Hello,

I'm interested in buying it and ship to my new home in Hawkes Bay... But firstly i would like you to answer my questions:

Are you still driving it & how would you describe the current condition? How long has it belonged to you?

I agree with the price and I am very interested in buying the Car for my son as a surprise Birthday present, I am not in New Zealand presently as I am in Ukraine as a volunteer for the Red Cross relief group in Donetsk, so I would be buying the item without personal visit.

I am going to buy it and it will be collected by a shipping agent and I will be paying you from my PayPal account because it is very safe for my money and you don't have to worry as I will pay the paypal fees too, If you have a paypal account I would like you to send me the details i requested below so that I can make the transfer, or if you don't have an account you can register at www.paypal.com and get back to me with the email address you used to register.

Your PayPal EMail Address :
Full Name :
Trademe Item Number:

The shipping agent is going to help you with the change of ownership, I would be waiting for your email soonest.

Cheers

I recieved a txt from +64 27 973 3551 "I want to know if your vehicle on trademe is still available. Kindly email me on: jozianestein@gmail.com as this is urgent.

I replied and they came back with the following.

"Thanks for responding, this is Joziane Steindorff. I believe my son sent you a text message to email me for the sale. i’m interested in buying this from you now off trademe for my son who is overseas(dubai). i want you to get back to me with its current condition, more pictures and your final price as i am looking for a decent bargain. I am at sea at the moment,i am an Marine biologist ( i work on tasman sea off the coast of australia ) and due to the nature of my work, phone calls is restricted. my son checked your advert and sent you a text to contact me (his mother ) via my email address .
Arrangements will be made to have this picked up from you after we have paid and all necessary registration/paperwork will be handled as well before pick up.

Regards"

After communicating with them for a while they have even had the nerve to provide a NZ drivers license of a person in Tauranga to prove they can be trusted.
